I put in my share of surfing, both to “police” the exchange I admin but also to earn credits for my own advertising. I have noticed that an alarming number traffic exchange users are wasting their time and money promoting generic affiliate pages. If that applies to you, you need to stop right now… because what you ought to do is use the traffic exchanges to build a list.

When you have an email list you can start building a relationship with your subscribers, you can recommend stuff to them again and again and a lot of them will follow your recommendations… believe me this is a lot easier than getting people to buy or join from a generic sales page they look at for 3 seconds in a traffic exchange.

Every successful internet marketer will tell you that the money is in the list… and they aren’t feeding you BS, they are telling you the simple truth. It is virtually impossible to achieve any level of success in internet marketing without building an email list.

Fortunately for you it’s very simple to get started building a list and it does not have to cost an arm and a leg, in fact you can get started for free… Introducing my 5 Step List Building Plan

Step 1: You Need A Squeeze Page…

You can join Affiliate Funnel for free and get access to some great squeeze pages you can start using immediately. You don’t have mess around with HTML or any tech stuff, the Affiliate Funnel pages are fully hosted and ready to go. Affiliate Funnel also provides you with PDF and video tutorial on how to start using the pages + weekly training seminar with lots of tips on list building.

Your second option is to join Instant Squeeze Page Generator (also free to join). Instant Squeeze Page Generator offers a simple point and click system for setting up your own cool squeeze pages. They also have some cool gifts you can use to entice people to sign up for your list. Like with AF you don’t have to host anything, Instant Squeeze Page Generator will host and deliver both your squeeze pages and gifts.

Step 2: You Need A Good Auto Responder…

This is where you will collect your leads and where you will email them from. The auto responder is probably your most important tool and not the place you want to save money. There are a lot of “free” services out there, but most of them are garbage and have a very low email delivery rate (trust me, that will cost you a lot of money in the long run).

I recommend that you use either AWeber or Email Aces as your auto responder. If you absolutely want a free service you can get a free account at Email Ace, just beware that they will put 3rd party ads in your emails if your are a free member.

When you have an account set up at one of the two auto responders above you need to paste the web form code into either Affiliate Funnel or Instant Squeeze Page Generator. No worries though, Affiliate Funnel will provide you with a detailed tutorial and videos on how to do that.

Step 3: You Need An Email Series…

Now that you have a squeeze page that feeds your auto responder with new leads you need an email series that automatically go out to your prospects as a set interval. As you get more experienced with list building you probably want to write your own follow up series. But if you are just getting started you can grab a ready made email series from within Affiliate Funnel, you can even import it directly into your auto responder and be ready to go within minutes (again, they have a full tutorial on this inside the members area).

Step 4: You Need To Track Your Campaigns…

Now that you have everything in place it’s time to start bringing traffic to your squeeze pages… but before you do that I highly recommend that you set yourself up with an adtracker so you can track your advertising campaigns. This way you will know which squeeze pages and traffic sources are the most effective. For long term growth it’s important to know your conversion rates so you can continually tweak and improve your campaigns.

Step 5: You Need Traffic…

Now that we finally have everything set up, you of course need traffic to your new squeeze pages. Safelists and viral list builders are also very effective, free/low cost advertising venues for your squeeze pages.
